Designing Native Apps From The Ground Up: A 3-Step Framework
Nice.
Very exciting update, but I don't have Sync with Library button on the right panel. Do you know, what could cause the issue?
Great
So... Fig jam???
Where is the demo of how to use Zeplin?
Hey there! Our very own Josh has a video for you here: ruclips.net/video/hF54Y-qiAR0/видео.html
Am getting an error message saying "Figma file not found". Am the owner of the library in figma and am unable perform this operation. Could you please help?
Hey @kruthikaranam09! Sorry to hear you're experiencing some issues. Mind sharing more details about this via support@zeplin.io? We'll take a look.
I love this series
We're so happy to hear that! If you have any recommendations on who you want to hear from next, let us know! 🫶
Nice, good to have an alternative to dev mode. But the additional step to keep track of such a „separate space for design specs“, by having to publish them manually doesn’t really resonate with me either.
Great interview, Cloe! Nico, you are a natural interviewer. Looking forward to more of these. 😊
Thanks so much for listening in, Lillian! Hope to continue to do more fun things with this series. 🤗
how is this different from figma dev mode
Proton has fantastic UI's.
I will take it home .. yet (omlet😂)
🙌
Question the Zeplin is Free ?
Hi! You can use Zeplin for Free with 1 project and up to 6 members. You can sign up here: app.zeplin.io/register
cool!@@ZeplinIo
Seems like Zeplin should have been part of Figma's default functionalities from the start
What about shared figma resources like external Typescales, colour variables?
I'm using Zeplin for the first time and mainly use Photoshop to design. Is there a way to export components from Photoshop or manually add them in Zeplin? I'm having trouble figuring this out.
Sadly, due to technical limitations of Photoshop, the concept of a "component" is not available for the Zeplin Photoshop plugin. We're always on the lookout for updates from Adobe for this, but in the meantime, you can export components from other Zeplin-supported tools like Figma, Sketch, or XD.
Is the Version History & Comparison function under the free plan? Any limitation?
Are the Zeplin annotations auto-numbered?
Hey there! Comments are auto-numbered in the order they are added. Annotations are different-there's no number attached to them. You select an annotation type 'Behavior', 'API', 'Requirement', 'Animation' or 'Tracking' and that's the label that appears on the screen for it.
What about color tokens, its just supported color style not color tokens
it ignores .ts, .js etc. files at time of scan and at result no analysis generated
@maulikthaker009 Hmm.. that's strange. That shouldn't be the case. You can learn more in our documentation here: docs.omlet.dev/getting-started/what-is-omlet or contact us with more details at hi@omlet.dev. We'll take a look!

Great conversation-thanks y'all!
Nice content. Really expository. Someone asked a question about an Ivory Tower problem design system teams face and you mentioned that you knew a very smart designer who wrote a blog that sort of proffered a solution to this... please could you drop the link to the blog post? Thanks.
Hey! Here's the blog post referenced: medium.com/lucid-software-design/consistency-vs-flexibility-in-design-systems-ec9a7b5fbdb7
@@ZeplinIo Thanks.😊 👍🏾
I'm looking for a tool to help our clients build small one page websites and get the code
snazzy update!
how can i import my color-styles and text-styles from figma to a global styleguide? it doesn't show up!
Hey there! Sorry to hear you're having trouble with this - do you mind emailing support@zeplin.io, I'm sure we can get this sorted for you.
I would not recommend Zeplin to any product team and entirely disagree with this selling perspective. In Figma, designers have to build their entire design system, otherwise we actually can't build our UI accurately. There's space for code, notes, and quick documentation. All it requires is being in the correct tab. With Zeplin, you have to re-create your "styleguide" entirely (which is very difficult to learn) and there isn't adequate space for design documentation. In addition, the amount of time it requires to upload every screen to Zeplin, organize them, add tags, and make sure all components are linked properly takes designers DAYS of additional time. It entirely removes the "faster speed" allowed to devs, especially when you're in a team trying to build a larger backlog. It's redundant and tedious for designers to manage all of this in Zeplin, and the amount of time spent training devs on how to read Figma files is far less than designers having to do this work every time a design is created or even updated in a minor way.
🌸 'promosm'
Hopefully we don't need buttons for those wanted components! Nah, just kidding, great advice. Design Systems are a product, do user research and get what your users need at the top of the prios!
Haha I really enjoyed the tricks to bring the attention back 😂
Ya'll need a Minecraft or Subway Surfer cut for the zoomers 🏃
This is awesome! I love seeing this real-world use case to see how our changes will directly impact the end experience. It helps us choose the most important pieces to focus on and figure out who to communicate with and partner with. Thanks for sharing!
Great work, congratulations 🎉
Great job! Very informative and well put together video 🔥🔥
great conversation, very well presented , lovely backgrounds
🔥🔥🔥
Thanks to everyone who tuned into the session. There were come questions that came in live, so I figured this was the best place to answer them. 1.When I worked for Disney, we were working on something very similar. The biggest issue we had was maintaining a standard for all components. What do you have in place to ensure consistency and avoid one-off variants, inclusion of external libraries because an engineer believes it works better, and how you protect but evolve the system? (Question from Harmony audience member, Thomas D) We have a governance model that democratizes governance across the different groups that use the Design System. We also have a contribution model process, which allows people to experiment and offer up new components that have shown to be successful. The biggest thing is the collaboration that happens in weekly office hours where designers and engineers spend time talking about and building things together. 2. Would love to hear how they scale design systems when you have so many products having unique needs, or discovering new things to add, or adjusting existing elements in the system (Question from Harmony audience member, Matt W.) A lot of this goes back to having solid processes in place. From governance, to collaboration and co-creation. There will always be unique needs. Those who have the unique needs often don't see how the Design System can support their need. By talking and walking through various options there is usually something that works. If it doesn't work good enough, chances are they need a new pattern. Chances also are that someone else can benefit from that pattern. It's all about having open collaboration and shared ownership and accountability of the Design System. 3. Is Spark going to be updated/migrated in the future? sparkdesignsystem.com/ (Question from anonymous Harmony audience member) Spark is no longer being updated and is being decommissioned. 4. Do you have any suggestions for best practices around handling sub brands within a design system? (Question from Harmony audience member, Stevie O) This is something I've already answered above in different ways but may not have a specific answer for you. All situations, especially those with sub brands are very different. I go back to the shared ownership and accountability of the Design System, as well as the Design System team having a good understanding of the sub brand and its needs. From there, collaborating on what patterns work and what don't, and understanding the why and the tradeoffs around the consistency of the experience. 5. Does chatgpt with its powerful capabilities spoil designers in any way? specially student designers? (Question from anonymous Harmony audience member) I don't know if it spoils designers as much as it has the potential to allow for designers to automate some tasks so that they can focus on solving problems and delivering on human-centered outcomes. Empathy is still a very human characteristic that I don't know that AI has yet been able to solve for.
“What do you mean by labeling Discovery, Design, and Development?” (question from Harmony audience - Sid Li): In our Product Design Workspace within Zeplin, once we create a Project in a section… the project tile, once hovered upon shows a grey “No status” label… click on that to create your label or utilize the ones provided.
“What’s your best Chipotle menu hack?” (question from Harmony audience - Josh Harsono): One of my favorites comes from the TikTok hacks in the Fajita Quesadilla. I actually love the sauce where it’s combining the sour cream with the Chipotle Honey-Vinaigrette. It’s amazing!
“Best” process for product design (question from Harmony audience - Afsal Basith): Documentation and creating a Design Process Handbook. Identifying the tools that your product team uses (ie: JIRA) and how your Design Team uses it while creating a User Story template with Objective, Requirements, Acceptance Criteria, Stakeholders, Deadlines, etc. Then addressing to your Product Team what your Design Practice includes like: Grooming your backlog, UX in progress, UI in progress, Design critiques, Gaining approvals, Finalization and handoff to DEV/QA. Make sure to vocalize how much time is needed in each of these sequences.
“Is there any tool or approach in terms of accessibility for the products at Chipotle?” (question from Harmony audience - Juliana Mendonca): We’ve recently launched an accessibilty mode that can be turned on or off from the top navigation of our website. Our UI team always ensures that we comply with WCAG 2.0 Level AA standards. There are also companies out there that you can partner up with that do just that like Usablenet or Accessibe.
